How My Boy Kicked Autism
Chapter 16 Stay Put
My Boy Blank -4 Years
The Big 0-4! The last couple of months have been so amazing Blank. Summer time in sunny California. Watching you play at the beach. Seeing you interact with other kids on play dates, hearing your vocabulary grow, watching Sassy play soccer, tracking your amazing progress. It has been a wild ride. We went to a meeting last week with all of the usual players and are back in litigation with the District. Your services are stay-put for now, meaning everything is going to stay exactly as it is until we come to an Agreement.
Mom has been looking for a school to start sending you to because everyone but the school district is in agreement that you are ready to go to school and that it is imperative you be in a regular education classroom. She found one today that is close to home that she really liked. Tomorrow me and your supervisor are gonna go take a look at it too. If we like it as much as mom did, then I will take you to Target after therapy to go get you a new backpack.
A couple of days later…
Today I dropped you and Shadow23 off for your first day of school. When you came home, you told me you met a new friend named Herbert. I have never heard you talk so much. I don’t know if you will remember your first day of school but can assure you, today is a day I will NEVER forget.

We went to mediation again with the District today. Different mediator. This time it was a woman and she was not so nice. We presented a video-tape of you while you were at school with Shadow, playing on the playground and in circle-time. We also presented the progress data showing that you were meeting all of your current goals and keeping up with the curriculum with the other kids in the class. We agreed to settle the case so it looks like we are 2 and 0 and going out while we’re in the win.
